On the western shore of Lake Maggiore, the town of Meina is best known for its elegant 19th-century villas. It has many of the amenities you might need, bakers, shops and restaurants and bars overlooking the lake. There are several beaches close by, where visitors can swim or kayak. Meina train station, which is linked to many towns along the lake, is just a 2-minute drive from the flat. Otherwise, there are boats from the town’s ferry port which visitors can take to explore the lake.
For self-catering, the town of Arona, just 5 minute drive, hosts a weekly farmers’ market on Tuesday mornings. Otherwise, there are supermarkets nearby.
Also in Arona visitors may enjoy the Parco della Rocca Borromea. The lakeside park offers forest walks, a ruined medieval castle, lush gardens and a cafe and makes a great day out.
Milan’s international Malpensa airport is a 40-minute drive.
