Travel Purpose: business

Positive: Location excellent. Rural. Fabulous views, away from the city hustle and bustle, no traffic. The villa was very spacious.

Negative: Although the location was excellent when you got there, there was a 4km drive (a car is a necessity) over a very rough narrow, road. More of a track than a road. We have a mile of farm track at our own home so it’s not that we’re not used to it but might not suit everyone. The owner Mauro must have been let down previously as he was quite insistent with payments. Despite paying in advance and told there’d be no more to pay on arrival, we were then sent notifications/emails that we were to pay extra for cleaning, taxes per person and finally for the electric. We were aware of this prior but we were badgered on a few occasions during our stay. The property was very clean but somewhat dated. The furniture in general was of poor quality. The chairs around the kitchen table and outside patio were more akin to camping than a quality villa. We were short of pillowcases and towels on arrival and other basics ie tea towels, washing up liquid, soaps, short of toilet paper (all of which we had to purchase) We were a family of 8 (3 generations) and we were left a mini hand towel each for the week. We had to request bath towels and pillowcases. The hot water was an issue. After a shower or bath the water was then cold for everyone else. The worst aspect however is We were woken in the middle of the night most nights by constant and prolonged barking and howling of dogs. There are 4-5 large dogs in very close proximity which appear to live outside. Having paid the £200 for cleaning we were dismayed to be informed that it was our responsibility to take all kitchen waste, bottles, cardboard etc to the end of the 4km road for disposal. We were also asked, which isn’t a great problem in isolation, to take dirty linen downstairs and leave in a pile (why?).
